Legend: I know I didn't finish it but...

Legend
By Marie Lu
Hardcover, 305 pages
Putnam Juvenile, November 2011
Rated: 4 Bites

What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic’s wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic’s highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country’s most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.

From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths—until the day June’s brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family’s survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias’s death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.

I have this problem. It's called reading part of a book then not finishing. I've been guilty of that enough. And it's not to say that the book isn't good or capturing. It's just that I don't have enough time. And then I don't finish the book and so I don't blog about it. Well, I'm blogging about it anyway!

This book was great from what I read. A little bit of violence though. I kind of stopped at the spoiler kissing) part.

But I enjoyed the switching of the points of view. So that was helpful in getting to know each of the main characters-one being a girl (June) and one a boy (Day).

It was a good paced book as well.

Ok, so I know I'm supposed to love this book and think Marie Lu is the next great YA writer. But... I didn't finish it either. I was disappointed by June, and didn't think the world they lived in was explained as much as I need it to be. I am hoping that when Prodigy is released I will have finished Legend and my dislike of June will fade as the character -hopefully- grows. So, I haven't given up yet.

Sorry you didn't finish it, it sounded like it had such great potential.

Perla-Good luck on that! I don't know if I'll end up finishing it, though I am curious about the ending!

Jolene-my sister finished it AND liked it! So it can't be that bad. I mostly liked it....

I can't help but add my 2 cents...hahaha... :)

Perla, I definitely agree with you that there were several details missing from the world building. I think I was able to overlook that because I was so engrossed in the "mission impossible" aspect of it. :)

Jolene, I really enjoyed it...check out my review! :D
